Celebrating Easter in Romania

Easter, also called Pascha* or Paşti (in Romanian) is one of the most important yearly Christian celebrations that celebrates the fundamental event of Christianity, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, on the third day after His crucifixion on Great Friday. Easter date is based on two astronomical phenomena: the spring equinox and the rotation of the moon round the Earth. Therefore, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. Celebrating Easter is preceeded by a long fasting period that commemorates the events before Christ’s Resurrection. Orthodox – Christians are soon celebrating Easter and only one month later Muslims are celebrating Ramadan, both two very important religious celebrations for their followers and the countries they come from, although thinking better, the 3 days of Easter are more like the end of Ramadan (Eid), same as the long fasting period preceding Easter is similar to the month of Ramandan when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset.
